"I have been a fitness junkie since 2000. It was a major lifestyle change for me involving nutrition, exercise, & vitamins.
Prior to boot camp I practiced traditional Japanese Shotokan karate for 4 years in which I did some instructing in cardio kickboxing. Sparring was my favorite. My Sensei referred to me as "killer". It was during this time that I became a gym rat using weights and running. The gym was my second home.
Running was always quite challenging to me as a short girl with asthma and I'll never forget how much I struggled to run my first mile with my husband, who was a runner. As a business owner & wife, my workouts left little time for myself and life so I stopped doing the martial arts. As running became more prevalent in my training, I realized how much I enjoyed working out in an outdoor setting. Boot Camp was an excellent way for me to cross train on my non-running days.
It is nice to use my experience as a runner, martial artist, & a gym rat to help other troopers reach their fitness goals. After training with & motivating other troopers with their running over the years, I decided to become an instructor for Fitness Edge Boot Camp in 2010 and obtained my personal training certification through AFAA. I enjoy creating different, fun, yet challenging workouts. Becoming a fitness instructor has helped me balance my life sitting behind a desk all day at my tax & financial planning business.
Since my last testimony, I have competed in one more Camp Pendleton mud run & 3 more SEB Castaic mud runs, 3 half-marathons, & 3 full marathons. I placed third in the Santa Clarita full marathon in 2009 and hit 2 personal records in the half marathon & the full marathon in 2010. We also formed a boot camp team for the Ragnar Relay in 2010. I really enjoy helping people run their first mile, mud run, half-marathon & full marathon. I remember what it felt like to do those for the first time & they are all huge accomplishments.
I have a great time with my boot camp family doing all the fun & challenging activities - the gauntlet challenges, 100 mile relays, 5k's, secret missions, celebration workouts, parties, etc... I am very proud of my involvement personally & now professionally with FEBC!"
