Jordana Capra

Recruit Mentor, PR Director

"Since joining Fitness Edge Boot Camp in the summer of 2005, I have brought home First Place Medals in two Mud Runs at the Camp Pendelton Marine Base and two Team Medals from the Sheriff's Mud Run in Castaic. These are 10-K military style obstacle courses where you RUN in MUD, that's 6 miles to us civilians. Now here's the kicker I have never been athletic in my life. I used to be a smoker and the only team that I was ever on in school was the Debate Team. When I joined Fitness Edge Boot Camp I couldn't run a block, but with the help and training from Instructor Tako, I now know how to control my breathing and finally my legs are strong enough to keep up a nice steady pace, even on the hills!

Cancer has devastated my family. I have lost my mom, her mom and my mom's sister to different cancers. I beat cervical cancer in 1995. A couple years later I participated in the 3-Day breast cancer walk, where I met a remarkable woman named Colleen Shaffer. In 2003, she created a non-profit called Circle of Hope, and together we did the breast cancer walk again that year. I am now President of Circle of Hope, and am very proud of the dozens of SCVers that we've helped in their battle with breast cancer. In fact Colleen, with stage 4 breast cancer, did Fitness Edge Boot Camp before I did! All along I've walked many 5-K's doing different cancer fundraisers, including the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, the Komen Race for the Cure in Pasadena and the Revlon Run/Walk, but in May of 2007 I RAN the Revlon for the first time! I've also managed to run the Santa Clarita half Marathon and finished in my goal time of just under 2 hours and 25 minutes!

When I joined Fitness Edge Boot Camp, I felt a little uncertain and wondered "How tough would this be? How rough will the instructors be on me?" Clearly I faced my concerns, and didn't let fear get the better of me. Since joining, I have fallen so crazy in love with Fitness Edge Boot Camp you might call it an obsession that now I want to help all the Recruits and make your Boot Camp experience exciting and fulfilling. Seriously, if I can do this, YOU can do this. I am here to be your Mentor. You will get my phone and email address, so no matter what or when, I am here to answer your questions. I will also send you periodic tips and ideas to ensure success with your plans to change your body and your health. I will run with you, or walk with you. I will check on you when you miss days and I will hi-five you when you show up and accomplish goals big and small. Because the is no such thing as a 'small' goal!"
